Developing our designs and our leather has taken over a year and we have learned a ton along the way. Here is a sneak peak into the world of leather and how to measure it.
Leather skins come in all sorts of different sizes and is generally priced by the square foot. If you've ever seen an entire leather skin, you're probably asking the same question we had: how is it possible to accurately measure such an irregularly shaped thing? Luckily there is what we have affectionately come to know as the WEGA CIAK machine. Basically, the leather is simply fed through a giant roller. As it rolls through, the area of the leather is scanned in all its irregular glory. The square-footage measurement is then displayed on a small screen and stamped on the underside of the skin. Voilà!
